The Fifth Annual Donkey
Basketball Challenge pitted five-on-five member teams from the Greater Anaheim
Kiwanis Club and the Anaheim Rotary Club. After Kiwanis captured the
inaugural game in 2000, Rotarians quickly rebounded to retain the bragging
rights ever since.
Proceeds from the game support
recreational and after-school programs for local model children. Over
$25,000 from previous sidesplitting games have funded a "Fun on
Wheels" van that travels to motels to reach children living in isolated
areas the city where there are no parks, playgrounds or community
centers.
Although the first three quarters were neck in neck, Rotary's gallant fourth-quarter drive netted another victory notch on their championship belt.
The TOTAL K event included the
Donkey Basketball Game, concessions, and a car wash. Click on the

Some well-deserved kudos are in order...on behalf of the hundreds of children living in nearby motels, please accept my heartfelt thanks for your support of today's Fifth Annual Donkey basketball Game. Although the first three quarters were neck in neck, Rotary's gallant fourth-quarter drive netted another victory notch on their championship belt.
To Doc, Clarissa and "the other" Anaheim-based service club, congratulations and thanks for your dedication. Please pass on KCGA's sincere thanks to all of your members and please extend a special thanks to Aramark and Video Cam for their support and generous contribution.
To Denise at AUHSD, Susan and her great staff at Brookhurst JHS, thanks for your hospitality and
enthusiasm. We are keeping our fingers crossed that you will invite us back next year.
To all of the Kiwanis Clubs participating in TOTAL K Day and, of course, Stephaine and Keith, Kiwanis Division LTG and Incoming LTG, thanks for your support and leadership.
To our KCGA "sales force" --- a hearty pat on the back. Special props to...
- Dick LaRochelle for spearheading ad sales
- Frank Garcia for providing refreshments
- Terry Reinbold for shooting the pics
- June Glenn liaison with the motel kids
- Barbara Selleck and "Barbara's Babes" handling registration and opportunity drawing sales
To our GREAT Key Clubbers, past and present, for taking part in TOTAL K activities. Special kudos to our car wash team...Nathan at Oxford Academy (I'll be waiting to hear about USC next week), Grace at Kennedy and, of course, Diana our wonderful LTG. We have a great new group of officers and members coming on-board next week and we look forward to working with each of you.
And, finally, I would like to extend my appreciation to our thrill-seeking riders who are probably at home right now applying several coats of Ben Gay to parts of their bodies who haven't seen this much action since Dan Quail's invention of the internet.
Dan Clark --- Henry Arayasirikul (go UCLA) --- Lydia Lapoint --- Kent French --- Kristi Hoftstetter --- Jeff Koenig ---John "Edwin Drood" Chau (incoming Key Club Div 30 North LTG) --- Suzy Ryoo (incoming Key Club Div 30 South LTG) --- and, last but not least, my best friend, John Nguyen, for putting up with me and his temperamental
donkey.
Gary.
