As we find ourselves looking back on our successes and
tribulations of 2010, we see there are still golden opportunities for us to
strive for in 2011. The new year brings hope, joy and opportunities
for everyone.
Let us not forget those that have been struggling because of health issues,
family troubles, or financial reasons. Being a Kiwanian allows us to step
out of our own world and help those in need. Take a moment to look within
your club and community to see where you can make a difference. It might be
in a simple gesture of listening to someone, offering them a hot meal,
driving them to the doctors, or reading to a child. A simple moment of time
can make a true difference in someone's life. All it takes is one person --
and that person could just be you.
In 2011, I challenge each club to take on a new service project. If you have
done your club assessment and community analysis, you may just have that
project in front of you. Each of us needs to take a look at what we can do
to better serve our communities. I for one, hope to bring our clubs working
closer together on projects. We do not need to stay within our city
boundaries. There are more people and organizations that could use our help,
so let's work together and make a difference One Child One Community at a
Time.
Remember, this is the year of the BEAR --
-
B -- Bring in a new member
-
E -- Encourage others to serve
-
A -- Always have FUN!
-
R -- Retain, Recruit and Recognize
Bears are strong and intelligent -- as are Kiwanians. Let
2011 bring us all the joy and love we find in our hearts and share it with
others. Let's make a difference today, tomorrow, and in the days ahead. I
look forward to working with each of you in 2011.
Yours in Service,
Debbie
