Three times a year, the Kiwanis Club of La Habra recognizes
those students who have Brought Up their Grades in a very successful
school program.
150 to 200 kids from the 8 elementary schools are recognized
in November, March and June. The
kids are invited to come with their family and La Habra Kiwanis provides a
great spaghetti dinner, a certificate and prices.
After dinner, the Curly Haired Magician treated the families
to a magic show.
Then the school principals brought their kids up on the stage
for introductions and family photos.
Each kids was given a raffle ticket for prizes.
The first prize awarded was won lunch with Mayor Pro Temp
Rosie Espenoza and Councilman James Gomez (both were at the presentation)
and a tour of City Hall for six kids.
Ten more lucky kids won free tennis lessons and one
student won a new bicycle.
In addition, gift certificates from Applebee’s, Hometown
Buffet, Krispy Kream, and McDonalds were given out.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of
personal computers to one kids from each of the schools.
9 personal computers were present that night, one per school.
And additional 10 pc was presented to one lucky ticket holder that
night.

During the BUG Recognition
Dinner, La Habra President Hal Benveniste and Cynthia Holmberg
were recognized by the La Habra Chamber of Commerce as March
Citizen-Of-the-Month Awards for their continuous contribution the city and
citizens of La Habra.
